Winter Wonderland!

Dear Parents,

We continued our winter unit by making snow globes.  This week the children cut out snowmen, hats, and tore paper to make snow.  We sprinkled snow flakes inside and added a plastic cover to create a fabulous snow globes.

We also made our own snow by tearing toilet paper into small pieces, added shavings from a bar of soap and hot water.  We squished and squeezed the mixture together and finally rolled it into balls to make adorable snowmen.

The highlight of the week was when Lenny from creative creatures visited our school with lots of unique animals.  He brought in a flying squirrel, a chinchilla, two snakes, a skunk, a scorpion, and Ally the alligator.

The children all had a chance to hold and pet the animals if they chose to.  We saw the squirrel fly through the air into Lenny's pocket. We also saw the chinchilla take a bath into a powdery substance.  I am not sure who enjoyed the animals more, the children or me.  I actually held the most adorable skunk in my lap for the entire show. I would  have taken him home, but I guess a bird and a dog is enough pets for one household.

We ended the week by doing an experiment on capillary action.  We put red colored water in the first jar, left the second jar empty and put yellow colored water into the third jar.  We then rolled two paper towels into fourths. We put the end of the one paper towel into the first jar and the other other end into the second jar.  We did the same thing with the second paper towel with the second and third jars.  Ask  your child what happened.

              Red + Yellow = Orange

Love,
Ms Bonne and Ms. Barbara
