We started a new unit on outer space this week. We read several books on outer space. Some of the things we learned this week were:
~ There are eight planets in the solar system.
~ Jupiter is the largest planet.
~ Mercury is the smallest planet.
~ The sun is actually a large star.
~ We live on planet earth.
On Monday we made silver glittery stars which are displayed on our bulletin board, We also made space pictures using hair rollers for the planets and cookie cutters for the stars.
The children had so much fun making flying saucers by painting plates and bowls silver and then adding jewels on top. Some of the children couldn't get enough of the jewels on their plates. They
just loved them.
On Tuesday we joined forces with the Whole Note Class and made moon sand and designed astronaut costumes which even include a face sticker on them.
The finality of the week came when the children painted a large rocket ship, with a hole cut out for the children to look through. The children loved looking through the hole and having their pictures taken.
The children had so much fun playing with the glittery play dough and space figures.
We also began making our own individual rocket ships, using Pringle Potato chip cans, tissue paper, and lots of stickers. We will finish them next week, along with our planets.
Love,
Ms. Bonne and Ms. Barbara
