We continued our outer space unit this week by learning more about each of the planets. Some of the things we learned were:
Jupiter is often referred to as the "King Planet" because it is so large. We also learned about our planet, Earth. It is the third planet from the sun and is mostly made up of water which is why it is sometimes referred to as the water planet. We had an excellent discussion with the children about each planet and what they had learned. I was shocked with what they remembered and how excited they became. They all had their hands up and couldn't wait to share their knowledge with everyone.
The children had so much fun making rocket ships and planets. They made paper mache planets by mixing glue, water, and flour in a large tub. We then took strips of paper towel, dipped them into the mixture, and covered balloons with it. While we were making them, the children kept asking me what these balls of "goop" were going to be. I have to say, I wasn't convinced myself, that they would ever turn out to look like a planet. However, after several days of them drying, we were finally able to paint them. The results were phenomenal!

Next week we look forward to learning about several artists, some of which include: Vincent van Gogh and Wassily Kandinsky. We will be studying them and replicating some of their famous art work.
Your children's art work will be displayed throughout the school on Sunday April 12th, at our Open House.
Love,
Ms. Bonne and Ms. Barbara
